FEATURES
Domaine du Collier was established in 1999 by Antoine Foucault, son of Charly Foucault of the renowned Clos Rougeard. Located in Brézé within the Saumur appellation, the estate primarily cultivates Chenin Blanc, including some century-old vines. Antoine is dedicated to natural viticulture, avoiding chemical treatments and utilizing indigenous yeasts with minimal sulfur. His wines are celebrated for their power, minerality, clarity, and precision. The 2014 vintage in the Loire Valley was generally very good, with hot, dry September conditions ensuring phenolic ripeness and cooling breezes preventing rot, leading to excellent Chenin Blancs from Anjou Saumur. The 2014 Saumur AOC from Domaine du Collier received 93 Falstaff points from Peter Moser in 2019.
This white wine displays a light yellow-green hue with silver reflections. The nose offers delicate notes of orange blossom and vanilla, fine yeasty nuances, and a hint of fresh quince, creating a multifaceted and attractive bouquet. The palate is juicy and tightly knit, with ripe peach fruit, finesse-rich acidity, and delicate honeyed undertones on the finish. It's an elegant, clinging, and immensely layered Chenin Blanc. Further tasting notes reveal an evolved and complex nose of dry straw, walnut, mild curry, mushrooms, and a slight honeyed touch. It is zesty, tropical, with great backbone acidity and balance, showcasing minerals, ripe red apples, Anjou pears, white tea, and a hint of blanched almonds. The wine is round, textured, complex, and positively crackling with acidity, citrus pith, pear, quince, and crushed quartz.
🍴 Food Pairing: A singular, mature, and highly gastronomic wine. It excels with rich seafood, poultry, creamy sauces, and aged cheeses. Its acidity and complexity also make it an excellent match for dishes featuring herbs and subtle spices.
🥂 Fit for Event: An exceptional white wine for a connoisseur's dinner, a celebratory occasion, or as a thoughtful gift for those who appreciate aged Chenin Blanc. Its complexity and aging potential make it a fascinating wine to explore. While not an ancient vintage, a 2014 white wine like this Saumur has developed beautiful complexity. It's advisable to store it properly and handle it gently. Decanting might not be strictly necessary, but allowing it to breathe for 30-60 minutes in the bottle or a decanter can help its aromas and flavors fully open up. Serve slightly chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F). 【From the son of Clos Rougeard's famed Foucault family, known for powerful, mineral, and precise Chenin Blancs from natural viticulture】
