FEATURES
The 2018 vintage in Catalunya, encompassing Côtes Catalanes, saw higher volumes and some producers noted slower ripening, resulting in a great natural balance of acidity and flavor with marginally lower alcohols. Domaine Gauby's Muntada is a flagship red wine, renowned for its strong focus on organic and biodynamic viticulture and deep respect for its unique terroir. It is crafted from very old Grenache, Carignan, and sometimes Syrah vines, thriving on limestone and schist-rich slopes. The winemaking involves extremely low yields, hand-harvesting, and minimal intervention, including whole cluster fermentation with native yeasts.

This wine pours a deep garnet. The nose is complex, offering dark cherry, blackberry, wild herbs, leather, and a hint of garrigue, interwoven with subtle smokiness and a marked stony minerality. On the palate, it is structured and powerful yet elegant, with ripe black fruit, savory spice, dried Mediterranean herbs, and subtle earthy notes. Fine-grained, silky tannins and bright acidity provide tension and depth, leading to a long, mineral-inflected finish with echoes of smoke, pepper, and dried flowers. It offers a powerful expression of old-vine intensity with notable elegance and can age for over a decade, developing further layers of spice and graphite. Decanting is recommended, and it benefits from slightly cooler serving temperatures for red wine.
🍴 Ideal food pairings include refined, flavorful dishes such as roast lamb with herbs, duck breast with a red wine reduction, game birds, beef fillet, grilled tuna, or mushroom risotto. It also complements ratatouille, roasted root vegetables, and aged cheeses like Comté.
🥂 This sophisticated red is perfect for a gourmet dinner, a special celebration, or for enjoying with rich Mediterranean cuisine. Its excellent aging potential also makes it a prime candidate for cellaring.
