FEATURES
Champagne Arthur Lelièvre Ludes Chardonnay 'Le Belai' is a Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) Champagne, often released as a non-vintage (NV) or with a specific vintage like 2021. Arthur Lelièvre, a sixth-generation winemaker, established his own label in 2021, focusing on terroir-driven Champagnes with a low-intervention approach inspired by Burgundy. The 'Le Belai' cuvée is a single-parcel Blanc de Blancs from the oldest Chardonnay vines in Ludes, a Premier Cru village in the Montagne de Reims. The wines are fermented and aged in oak barrels (228- and 350-liter), often with indigenous yeasts, and typically have very low or zero dosage, emphasizing the purity of the fruit and terroir.
Tasting notes describe 'Le Belai' as a pure and refined Extra Brut Champagne. It exhibits a brilliant straw yellow color with green reflections and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose offers complex aromas of citrus, white flowers, white peach, mineral notes, and nuances of brioche and almond. On the palate, it is fresh, elegant, and creamy, with lively acidity and a long, persistent mineral and fruity finish. Other descriptions mention delicate floral notes, fresh bread, white-fleshed fruits, and a chalky finish.
