FEATURES
The 1996 Krug Vintage Champagne Brut is a truly exceptional wine, often hailed as one of the greatest vintages of the century and frequently compared to the legendary 1928. This vintage was characterized by extreme temperature variations, a rainy winter, massive frosts in February, and a sunny, dry spring, culminating in a very dry September with warm days and cold nights—perfect conditions for a harvest that yielded grapes with both ripeness and extremely high freshness. It was also the last Krug Vintage blended by three generations of the Krug family working together. 【 Paul Krug II even proclaimed, "I think this may well be the next 1928." 】
Upon tasting, the 1996 Krug reveals a radiant, rich gold color with resplendent bubbles. The nose is complex and mature, offering aromas of toasted brioche, baked apples, spice, lemon, and a classic brioche/oxidized note, alongside hints of fresh pear, candied lemon, ripe summer fruit, honey, gingerbread, and delicate mocha. On the palate, it's explosive, powerful, and majestic, with a firm texture and full, ripe flavors that burst into jubilant freshness. It presents layers of candied apricots, quince, pears, spices, toasted nuts, and a rapier-like acidity, life-affirming minerality, and a thrilling focus and freshness. Despite its age, many describe it as still youthful, with immense aging potential, capable of thriving for decades.
🥂 This magnificent Champagne is perfect for celebrating significant milestones, grand anniversaries, or any occasion demanding the utmost in luxury and prestige. Its complexity and depth make it a contemplative wine to be savored amongst connoisseurs.
🍴 The 1996 Krug pairs beautifully with rich and complex dishes. Consider mascarpone recipes like fusilli in white sauce or potato gratin. It also complements salmon tart with zucchini, goat cheese or vegetable tiramisu, sea scallops or shrimps with rich basil and mustard sauce. For a decadent finish, try it with an orange tiramisu or pecan pie with a white or rosemary cream topping. It can also be enjoyed with roasted veggies with tzatziki sauce, and pasta.
