Jean Jacques Confuron, Vosne Romanee Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru, 2021
The 2021 vintage for Jean-Jacques Confuron Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has been noted by critics, with Jasper Morris scoring it 91-93 points. The bouquet, though somewhat subdued by bottling, still reveals the class of the vineyard. While it may not fully fill out the mid-palate compared to some others in this vintage, it remains a good wine. The wine is described as having a fine mid-red crimson color. Community reviews mention a full Beaux Monts imprint, being rather dark and ripe while retaining great overall freshness. Tasting notes include mixed flavors of juicy black cherry, creamy blueberry, and a slight boiled meat note, driven by a tight yet tapered late palate, providing precision and tension. Aromas upon opening can be funky, evolving into dark cherry, carob, camphor, blueberry, and warm spices. 【Produced in limited quantities, not exceeding 2,300 bottles a year, from old vines】.
🍴 Food Pairing: This Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, made from 100% Pinot Noir, would pair exquisitely with classic Burgundy pairings such as duck, goose, and other game birds. Its red fruit and earthy notes would also complement roasted white and red meats, charcuterie, and soft cheeses.
🥂 Event Suggestions: This wine is ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a special celebration, or a gathering of Burgundy enthusiasts. Its elegance and complexity make it suitable for a romantic evening or a thoughtful gift for a discerning wine lover.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgund, France. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites.
