Jean Jacques Confuron, Vosne Romanee Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru, 2015
The 2015 Jean Jacques Confuron Vosne Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru is a red Burgundy that truly embodies its prestigious terroir. This Premier Cru is often noted for its unusually high quality, frequently compared to Grand Cru wines. Upon opening, it presents a funky nose that evolves into complex aromas of dark cherry, carob, camphor, blueberry, and warm spices, with hints of oak and floral notes like violet and lily. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with a velvety texture and gentle concentration, showcasing juicy black cherry, creamy blueberry, and a subtle savory note. It boasts perfect precision and tension, driven by quartz acids, super-bright minerality, and dry tannins, leading to a long, juicy finish. This wine is still developing and is recommended to be enjoyed from 2025 onwards, with an aging potential of 12 to 15 years.
Food pairing suggestions include classic choices like duck, goose, and other game birds. It also pairs wonderfully with rich meat in sauce dishes and strong, aged cheeses.
This wine is ideal for a significant celebration or a sophisticated dinner where a truly exceptional Burgundy is desired. Its aging potential also makes it a superb addition to a collector's cellar. 【Unusually high quality for a Premier Cru, closer to Grand Cru quality】
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgund, France. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites.
