FEATURES
The 2008 La Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos d'Audignac 1er Cru hails from a challenging vintage, with reports of hail and cold weather. Despite these difficulties, the wine has proven to be incredibly vibrant and expressive. La Pousse d'Or is recognized as a collector's choice for expressive and memorable wines from Burgundy's esteemed terroirs, holding a place among the Burgundian elite. The Clos d'Audignac is an estate monopole vineyard, meticulously farmed following biodynamic principles and surrounded by a stone wall.
Visually, this 2008 Volnay shows some signs of age with slight bricking on the rims. The nose, however, can still be very young, revealing a poised, elegant, and aromatic profile with notes of violets, mushrooms, earth tones, raspberries, cranberries, a touch of wood, and lavender. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and soft, with flavors of cherry, earth, and mineral. Expect dark plums, incense smoke, and black raspberry, with an earthy, plush fruit character that is velvety and long. It possesses medium-plus acidity and fine-grained, yet youthful, tannins.
🍴 This elegant Volnay pairs beautifully with flank steak with pepper, traditional oeufs en meurette (poached eggs in red Burgundy sauce), and aged French cheese. It also complements duck, goose, and other game birds.
🥂 Given its age, this wine benefits significantly from careful handling. Decanting is highly recommended, but gently, to separate any potential sediment. Allow a good bit of time in the glass, or even a few hours of air, for it to fully open up and express its complex aromas and flavors. Be mindful of the cork, as older corks can be fragile. While showing some age, it still needs at least 3-5+ years to fully reveal itself, making it suitable for continued cellaring or a contemplative evening. 【An expressive and memorable Volnay 1er Cru from a challenging 2008 vintage, showcasing the elegance and depth of La Pousse d'Or's biodynamically farmed monopole vineyard.】
