FEATURES
The 2008 Soldera Brunello di Montalcino Case Basse marks a return to a more classic style for the estate, showcasing bold and savoury flavours built for extended ageing. Gianfranco Soldera, the visionary behind this cult winery, was a zealous guardian of his unique terroir, cultivating an extraordinary ecosystem at Case Basse. Winemaking is traditional, involving long maceration and maturation for up to six years in large Slavonian oak vats with very low sulphur dioxide use.
On the nose, expect an enchanting perfume of roses, leather, and spices, alongside notes of sage, rosemary, tobacco, mint, and dark red stone fruits. The palate is mature yet vibrant, elegant, and delicate, revealing layers of light dried fruits, florals, earth, dark confit berries, herbs, and a touch of cinnamon. It's described as hauntingly beautiful, balanced, and refined, offering an incredibly long and complex finish.
This exceptional red wine is versatile and pairs wonderfully with rich, flavourful dishes. Consider serving it with tagliolini adorned with white truffles, a succulent roast rack of lamb, or a traditional carne cruda piemontese. The producer suggests that a great wine complements any great food without limits.
For serving, the recommended temperature is between 17 and 18 degrees Celsius. Some experts suggest decanting for 2-3 hours to allow the firm tannins to soften and the wine to fully express itself, while others recommend leaving it in the bottle to appreciate its evolution over several hours.
