FEATURES
The 2000 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque is a powerful red wine from the Northern Rhône, known for its spicy notes and elegant character derived from its Côte Brune terroir with 'blond accents'. This vintage, a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, underwent a longer-than-usual fermentation to extract suave tannins. It presents a deep ruby red color with dark tints. On the nose, it offers intensely aromatic small red fruit, blackberry, and morello cherry, with sappy aromas of red berries, roasted nuts, and sexy oak spices, complemented by brown spices and mocha. The palate delivers a supple attack with a balanced, supple structure, concentration, and elegant tannins, fully expressive of its terroir. While some critics noted it as 'La Turque light' with a shorter finish in 2014, others in 2008 found it very young and almost jammy, with lots of classy oak and vanilla that hadn't fully integrated with the earthy, cassis-slanted fruit. It's described as medium to full-bodied, balanced, rich, and long. 【A powerful wine with spicy notes and great elegance】. This wine, now over two decades old, embodies the classic style of aged Côte-Rôtie, offering a complex bouquet and evolving palate. Older wines like this can be quite fragile, so handle with care. The cork and capsule may be delicate; consider using an Ah-So opener or a Durand for extraction. Decant gently for 30-60 minutes to allow it to breathe and shed any sediment, but be mindful not to over-decant, as very old wines can fade quickly.
Traditionally, Côte-Rôtie pairs wonderfully with lamb. Its bold and structured profile also makes it an excellent match for roasted game, beef dishes, or rich stews. The spicy notes would complement dishes with a hint of black pepper or herbs.
This wine is ideal for a special occasion dinner, a vertical tasting of Guigal's 'LaLa' wines, or as a contemplative wine to enjoy with fellow connoisseurs. Its age and complexity make it a truly rewarding experience for those who appreciate mature Rhône wines.
