FEATURES
The 1999 vintage was a resounding success for Red Burgundy, widely regarded as a banner year that offered a rare combination of charm and power. Clos de Tart Grand Cru 1999, from a monopole vineyard known for the longevity of its wines, benefited from excellent weather conditions, resulting in a large, healthy harvest with ripe, juicy fruit and perfectly ripe, silky tannins. This wine typically presents a medium to medium-plus ruby-red colour, sometimes with a salmon pink edge. The nose is complex and inviting, revealing gorgeous red plum and bergamot scents, dried rose petals, cold stone, and hints of orange zest, alongside rich plums, sweet black cherries, candied blueberries, and various spices. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with firm, strict tannins, showcasing wild berries, earthy undertones, and truffle nuances. As it ages, the fruit gracefully recedes, giving way to attractive notes of black pepper, bay leaf, and Earl Grey tea, culminating in a very long, mineral-driven finish. 【A pinnacle of winemaking craft, striking a resplendent poise between vigor and finesse, with prodigious longevity】
This Grand Cru pairs exquisitely with roast pork loin, especially with fennel and green olives, or a classic Chicken Supreme. It also complements other classic meat dishes, game, roasted poultry, mushroom-based dishes, and aged cheeses.
Most 1999 red Burgundies are now in their peak drinking window and will continue to evolve beautifully for many years. The 1999 Clos de Tart is still on its upward trajectory, with potential for another 5-10 years of graceful aging, possibly reaching its peak in the next decade. Due to its age, proper storage is crucial, ensuring consistently cool temperatures and adequate humidity. Decanting a few hours before serving is highly recommended to manage any sediment and allow the wine to fully express its complex aromas and flavours.
