🏰The 1991 Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintage, while sometimes inconsistent, saw favorable weather conditions with a hot, dry summer that allowed grapes to ripen slowly and develop their aromas, making it a 【fascinating vintage for those who appreciate the evolution of aged Rhône wines】. This E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape, from a renowned producer, offers a glimpse into the classic, sun-drenched style of the Southern Rhône. Expect an intense red with amber highlights, revealing aromas of candied red fruit, dried prunes, and figs. The palate should present silky tannins, balanced acidity, and a beautiful concentration of ripe fruit, now evolved into complex tertiary notes.
🍴 This mature Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an excellent companion to rich, savory dishes such as grilled or roasted red meats like rib of beef, duck breast, or herb-crusted leg of lamb. It also pairs wonderfully with game like wild boar or hare, hearty stews, and mature cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a special occasion with friends who appreciate exploring older vintages, or a contemplative evening to savor the complexities of a well-aged Rhône. Always check the cork and capsule carefully before opening. Serve at 15.5°C (60°F), and consider decanting for 15-30 minutes to allow it to open up and separate any sediment, but be mindful that very old wines can sometimes diminish delicate aromas with extended decanting.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
