The 2005 vintage for Amarone della Valpolicella was marked by uneven temperatures, ultimately proving encouragingly hot despite a cool spring. July and August brought rain and humidity, which reduced the diurnal temperature variation. However, a hot, dry September significantly boosted the vintage from good to excellent, even with a somewhat wet autumn. The warmer nights did lead to a relative lack of acidity in some wines, potentially affecting their long-term aging potential, though many bottles from this year are still drinking nicely.
This Amarone presents an intense garnet-red color. On the nose, expect hints of cherry, red berries, plum, spice, tobacco, and herbs. The palate reveals rich, dry, black-cherry flavors, a round texture, and a long finish with notes of cacao and spice. Other tasting notes describe prune, date, polished oak, concentrated fruit, and fine, soft tannins, offering a full-bodied, elegant, and vigorous profile with an unmistakable spicy taste reminiscent of cinnamon and hazelnuts. It boasts complex aromas of sweet red and black cherry, blackberry, dried plum, sweet tobacco, soft oak, dark chocolate, sweet spice, and licorice. The wine is smooth, dry, and warm on the palate with an expansive and sublime texture, supported by finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity.
🍴 This wine pairs beautifully with game, roasts, and strong-flavored cheeses. It can also be enjoyed as a wonderful “meditation wine” on its own.
🥂 Given its richness and complexity, this Amarone is ideally suited for special dinners, celebratory occasions, or as a contemplative indulgence. 【A super Amarone, with elegance and length, like cashmere.】
