FEATURES
The 2019 vintage in Germany was exceptional, combining excellent ripeness with bright, crisp acidity. It was a challenging year with extreme weather patterns, demanding quick decision-making and hard work from growers. Mosel growers were particularly pleased with the quality of their off-dry wines across all Prädikats. The 2019 Mosel vintage saw a smaller crop at many VDP estates, but successful wines beautifully combined ripe fruit with fine acidity. While a rainy period in early October was followed by warm, balmy weather that boosted ripeness and botrytis quality in some areas, including the Middle Mosel, the vintage also saw a heatwave in late June that caused 'sunburn' in many Riesling grapes, leading to yield reductions of 10-30% in the Mosel. This forced reduction in yield, however, resulted in exceptional concentration in the wines. The 2019 vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest vintages of modern times for German Riesling, offering astonishing quality from dry to classic styles. Heymann-Löwenstein is known for producing Rieslings that showcase vibrant acidity balanced with subtle sweetness, with the Röttgen vineyard imparting distinctive mineral notes. 【An exceptional 2019 Mosel vintage offering remarkable purity, concentration, and a perfect balance of ripe fruit and crisp acidity.】
This Röttgen Riesling presents a deep, refined, and flinty nose, opening to perfectly ripe yet precise, elegant, tropical, and flinty-scented Riesling fruit. On the palate, it is dense and piquant, concentrated yet juicy, mineral, vital, and nervy, with remarkable purity and freshness, culminating in a mouthwatering mineral finish with good grip and tension. Expect a typical nose of petrol, ripe tropical fruit with abundant minerality and sharp acidity. Tasting notes also include mixed citrus fruits, mint, basil, and an effusive, captivating petrol nose with an austere, mineral, high-acidity, and saline palate. Flavors of ripe peach, apricot, and honey intertwine with zesty acidity, leading to a long and refreshing finish. It appears golden in the glass, often described as tropical and petrol-laced. Common descriptors include minerals, honey, petrol, peach, apple, apricot, citrus, grapefruit, lime, pineapple, and tropical fruits.
🍴 This versatile Riesling pairs well with pork, shellfish, poultry, spicy food, and cured meats.
