FEATURES
The 2011 San Giusto a Rentennano Percarlo emerges from a Tuscan vintage that, despite a challenging heatwave, yielded good results. Winemaker notes indicate that approximately 30% of the fruit was discarded due to summer heat, necessitating meticulous berry selection. This diligent effort resulted in a profound expression of Sangiovese. Percarlo is celebrated for its consistent characteristics across vintages, faithfully reflecting its terroir, and boasts significant long-term aging potential.
Expect an unbelievably fragrant nose of bright cherries, lavender, caramel, and balsamic, intertwined with earthy, herbal Tuscan countryside notes. The palate is generous with juicy ripe fruit, friendly, and velvety smooth, supported by beautifully mellowed tannins. It presents a richer and fuller Sangiovese expression. Further tasting notes include cherry, raspberry, strawberry with hints of tobacco, oak, and vanilla. Other nuances detected are black cherry, dark fruit, pepper, licorice, mint, dried fruit, prune, raisin, floral notes, orange peel, yeasty notes, walnut, almond, hay, arugula, asparagus, apple, apricot, and quince. Visually, it displays a brilliant, vivid ruby color. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate describes sweet and soft contours of cherry and blackberry, enormous complexity, and a perfect balance between its masculine and feminine sides. Vinous highlights its fine, silky, and exceptionally polished texture, with stunning depth and richness.
Food Pairing: This robust red wine pairs excellently with turkey, steak, beef, and venison.
Fit to Event: This is a profound expression of Sangiovese. While it's still relatively young, it is already within its preferred drinking window and is expected to drink at a high level for another decade, possibly two. It comes highly recommended.
