FEATURES
The 2022 Keller Riesling Westhofen Brunnenhäuschen Abtserde Trocken GG is a truly exceptional wine, with The Wine Advocate hailing the 2022 Abts E Riesling GG as "probably the most impressive Riesling in the Keller family," awarding it an impressive 96 points. Klaus-Peter Keller is widely regarded as "the greatest German winegrower of his generation," and his wines are among the most sought-after globally. Jancis Robinson famously described his Rieslings as the "Montrachets of Germany." The unique limestone soils of the vineyard, enriched by clay and iron oxide, contribute significantly to the spicy character of this Riesling. Due to labelling regulations, the historic "Abtserde" parcel is now referred to as "Abts E®" on the label.
This Riesling is described as extremely pure, dense, and chalky, with a fine spiciness reminiscent of great Chablis, yet it also reveals an almost explosive fruit profile of ripe, concentrated pineapple with vibrant citrus freshness. It is full-bodied and dense, while maintaining purity, an enormous chalky and salty character, and a fine, mineral, and long-lasting finish with very fine tannins and stimulating salinity, brimming with tension. Further tasting notes reveal a firm and deep character, with hints of tobacco and delicate smoky notes, dark stone fruit, citrus, floral traces, and a touch of mussel shell. The palate is dense, juicy, and rather tart, with tightly knit fruit, fine, ripe acidity, and a crumbly grip of ripe tannin, alongside tobacco flavours, hints of tobacco ash, and dark berries in the background, all contributing to an intense, stony minerality. This wine needs to mature to reach its full potential.
🍴 This wine is wonderful with rich, creamy cheeses, foie gras, or root vegetables and squashes.
🥂 Best enjoyed after some maturation, with an optimal drinking window suggested between 2026 and 2034+. It's a wine for collectors and those seeking a world-class dry Riesling, perfect for contemplative enjoyment or as a luxurious after-dinner treat.
