FEATURES
The 1983 Charles Heidsieck Brut Millésime hails from a remarkably good Champagne vintage, despite a challenging start with a freezing winter and damp spring. A warm, dry summer ultimately led to a successful harvest, resulting in a vintage considered one of the decade's most mature and at its best for enjoyment today. This exceptional Champagne was released as part of the prestigious Collection Crayères in 2017, following an extensive aging period of over 15 years on its lees and a further 19 years in bottle within Charles Heidsieck's cold chalk cellars in Reims. 【 Released as part of the prestigious Collection Crayères in 2017 after extensive aging 】 Tasting notes reveal a lovely golden hue with greenish hints, offering fresh notes of tropical citrus fruit and an underlying nuttiness. It boasts a super-fresh nose and palate with abundant acidity, a persistent buttery quality, and a sweet spiciness reminiscent of home-baked biscuits. The long lees aging has preserved its freshness, showcasing remarkable energy, purity, and richness of character, with a chalky texture becoming more evident with post-disgorgement age. Expect a distinctly toasted bouquet, bready and orange-sated, with a rich, corpulent structure and a smoky finish, balanced by good acidity. Given its age, this 1983 Millésime should be handled with care. Old corks can be fragile, and capsules may show signs of age. Stand the bottle upright for a few days before opening to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is generally not recommended for aged Champagne, as it can dissipate its delicate aromas and effervescence too quickly. Serve slightly chilled, around 7-9°C (45-48°F), in appropriate Champagne flutes or tulip glasses to best appreciate its complexity. Open gently, twisting the bottle, not the cork, to minimize pressure release. Food pairing suggestions include delicate shellfish, crab, and lobster. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses like Comté and Parmesan, where its acidity and richness can cut through the saltiness. This vintage Champagne is perfectly suited for significant celebrations, milestone anniversaries, or as a luxurious gift for a connoisseur. Its maturity and complexity make it ideal for a contemplative tasting experience among friends or as the highlight of a sophisticated dinner party.
