FEATURES
Jacques Puffeney, affectionately known as the "Pope of Arbois," is a legendary figure from the Jura region. He retired in 2014, with his esteemed estate now part of Domaine Pelican. His Vin Jaune, a true Jura specialty, is crafted from Savagnin grapes exclusively in exceptional vintages. It undergoes a unique aging process of at least six years in old oak barrels without topping up, allowing a distinctive "voile" (yeast layer) to form, akin to the flor in Fino Sherry. The 2012 vintage is recognized as a powerful and expressive rendition of this remarkable wine. While 2012 was a globally mixed vintage, France generally enjoyed a good year for many regions.
Tasting notes for the 2012 Vin Jaune reveal an almost wild complexity, ranging from earthy undertones to burnt citrus, baking spices, yellow plums, and walnuts. Further descriptions include nutty, hazelnut, toffee, caramel, oak, honey, minerals, mushroom, lemon, orange, dried shiitake, brininess, dried mango, fenugreek, salt caramel, and curry spices, all contributing to a very mineral-driven profile. It presents a deep golden color, a dry character, and an unbelievable richness and complexity beautifully balanced by fine acidity.
Food pairings are best with regional specialties and robust flavors, such as Manchego and Parmesan cheese, spicy dishes, mature and hard cheeses, mushrooms, Comte cheese, or even Rosti with melted Alpine cheese.
This is a captivating and unique wine, perfect for connoisseurs and those with an adventurous palate. It's ideal for a dedicated cheese tasting, a special occasion showcasing rare and aged wines, or as a fascinating conversation starter at a sophisticated gathering. While the 2012 vintage is not ancient, Vin Jaune is renowned for its extraordinary longevity and this wine is still very young, promising decades of evolution. When serving, handle with care due to its age and unique style. Decanting is generally not recommended as its oxidative character is integral to its charm, but allowing it to breathe in the glass will help its complex aromas unfold. Serve slightly chilled, ideally between 12-14°C (54-57°F). 【Legendary work by the "Pope of Arbois"】
