FEATURES
The 1995 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Monfortino Riserva comes from one of Italy's most legendary wineries, known for producing its iconic Monfortino Riserva only in the best vintages. The 1995 vintage is particularly interesting, as the Monfortino grapes for this year came from vines less affected by hail than the Cascina Francia vineyard. This Barolo is described as a potent, old-school Monfortino, now entering its early peak of maturity, and can be enjoyed today while still possessing excellent aging potential for another 15+ years. It underwent a long fermentation and maceration, followed by aging for over 38 months in large wooden barrels.

**Tasting Notes:** This Barolo displays a medium red to moderately saturated amber-edged red color. The nose is very complex and sweet, melding red cherry, licorice, tobacco, chestnut, and camphor, offering the essence of Barolo. Further aromatic exploration reveals notes of leather, iron, roast meats, dark red fruit, dried herbs, tar, and rose petal, along with beautiful red fruit, rhubarb, and floral hints. On the palate, it's sappy with raspberry flavor, superb concentration, and an almost violent intensity, supported by firm acidity and big, chewy tannins. It presents an old-school, rustic character with a medium-plus body, high acidity, and flavors of dark red to black fruit, leather, iron, raw meat, and spices. While dense, silky, and concentrated, some notes suggest the firm acids and tough tannins can still clash, giving a dry finish, though it is structured and lifted with great aging ability.
**Food Pairing:** A powerful and structured red wine like the 1995 Monfortino Riserva demands equally robust food. It pairs exceptionally well with traditional Piedmontese cuisine, rich red meats such as braised beef or lamb, game dishes, truffle-based pasta, and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino. Its rustic charm also makes it a fantastic match for hearty stews.
**Fit for Event:** This Barolo is perfect for a significant celebration, a serious wine tasting, or a special dinner where a powerful, aged red wine is desired. Its current drinking window and further aging potential make it a versatile choice for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
