The 2021 Domaine Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane is a remarkable white Burgundy, showcasing the typical and wonderful aromas of a great Meursault, such as hazelnut and melted butter, but with Leflaive's signature precision. The 2021 vintage was challenging, marked by severe frost episodes in April which significantly reduced the harvest, and a difficult vine awakening with rainy and cool months in April and May. Despite these challenges, a lull in June allowed for successful flowering, and veraison was favored by good conditions from mid-August. This results in a wine that is somewhat tighter, yet still delivers great Burgundy character as interpreted by Leflaive. Aromas of citrus zest, green apple, hazelnuts, and fresh mint introduce a medium to full-bodied, taut, and electric wine with a satiny attack that transitions into a palate built around tangy acids. It offers a fresh and fleshy attack with notes of verbena and white fruits, quickly giving way to a beautiful smoothness in the middle of the mouth and a saline and mineral finish. 【This wine is a testament to Leflaive's ability to produce precise and characterful Meursault even in a challenging vintage.】
Food pairing suggestions: This elegant white Burgundy is a beautiful match for crayfish quenelles with Nantua sauce or seared scallops with chestnut shavings cooked in butter and thyme. It also pairs well with chicken and turkey.
Event suggestions: Perfect for a sophisticated seafood dinner, a special occasion lunch, or as an impressive addition to a fine wine collection. It is recommended to be drunk between 2026-2035.
