The 2022 vintage for Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Echézeaux Grand Cru was a generous and benign season, presenting few challenges for winemakers. The harvest began on August 30th, with grapes in excellent health. This vintage also marked a significant expansion for the domaine, as Louis-Michel Liger-Belair acquired new plots, including in Grands Echézeaux, through a long-term métayage agreement. The 2022 reds are described as supple, stylish, and medium-bodied, with ripe fruit, and a good balance of structure without being overly tannic. 【 Critics have noted the 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru for its lovely raspberry and mulberry fruit aromas, touched with cigar leaf, earth, and smoke. 】 The wines from this estate are often described as hedonistically thrilling, with a distinctive style that takes gratification to high levels, partly due to biodynamic practices.
🍴 While specific food pairings for this exact wine are not widely available, red Burgundy Grand Crus like this Echézeaux typically pair beautifully with roasted game, duck, mushroom-based dishes, and fine cheeses.
🥂 This Echézeaux Grand Cru is ideal for significant celebrations, intimate gourmet dinners, or as a centerpiece for a serious wine tasting. Its elegance and complexity make it a superb choice for showcasing the best of Burgundy.
BACKGROUND
Founded in 2000, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a relatively new wine producer in Burgundy, but the Liger-Belair family has experience in vineyards since 1815. . It is now managed by Louis-Michel Liguet, Comte de Belaire, who has begun planting vineyards again in Vonn-Romagne and Saint-Georges. Comte Liger-Belair now produces its only wine from La Romanée, a Grand Cru vineyard located on the Romanée-Conti hills. The domaine also owns land in several Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyards. Although the domaine is young, its wines are elegantly structured and highly sought after. La Romanée is one of the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy.
