FEATURES
The 2016 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin was a testament to resilience, starting with a challenging spring marked by severe frost, hail, and mildew, which significantly reduced yields. However, a beautiful second half of the summer, with sunny and dry weather through July, August, and September, ultimately saved the vintage. This led to fine ripeness and excellent quality, particularly for red wines, which are noted for their concentration, freshness, and a distinctive refreshing finish. The Pierre Amiot Gevrey Chambertin Les Combottes 1er Cru hails from a uniquely positioned vineyard, nestled at the border of Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-Saint-Denis, and notably surrounded by Grand Crus like Latricières-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin, and Clos de la Roche. This Premier Cru benefits from optimal east-south-east sun exposure and limestone soils.
On the nose, expect a complex bouquet of small red fruits like strawberry, cherry, and raspberry, complemented by darker notes of black cherry. Earthy undertones of forest floor, leather, mushroom, and damp earth mingle with hints of spices such as mint, pepper, and black licorice, alongside delicate floral notes of violet and dried flowers. The palate is full-bodied and structured, showcasing silky tannins and a remarkable persistency that leads to a long, satisfying finish. Some tasters also note a characteristic 'Gevrey funk' and a mineral streak. This wine has excellent aging potential, with optimal consumption suggested between 8 to 13 years, and an aging potential of up to 15-20 years depending on the vintage. 【The only Premier Cru surrounded by Grand Crus】.
