FEATURES
The 2015 vintage in Burgundy was a very ripe and heterogeneous year, with Harmand Geoffroy producing archetypal Gevrey-Chambertin wines that express the telltale meat-and-mineral core of the appellation. The vast majority of Harmand-Geoffroy's holdings are between 55 and 95 years of age, contributing to wonderful concentration. This particular 'Vieilles Vignes' (old vines) cuvée is sourced from three parcels with an average vine age of 65 years, drawing depth and structure from well-sited vines in outstanding terroirs like En Champs, Combe du Dessus, and Champerrier. It is vinified with 40% new oak, resulting in a deeper and denser expression of Gevrey.
Tasting notes for the 2015 Harmand Geoffroy Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes describe a wonderfully fresh, cool, and airy nose with scents of black cherry and earth, complemented by a floral top note. The palate offers fine mid-palate density and minerality, with delicious, intense, and serious flavours shaped by a firm tannic spine that requires some years of cellaring to soften. Other notes mention medium-plus intense aromas of raspberry, red cherry, strawberry, redcurrant, rose petal, toast, espresso, white pepper, and wet iron, with a dry, medium-plus acidity, and medium-fine grained tannins. 【Deep and dense expression of Gevrey from old vines】.
Food pairing suggestions include duck, goose, and game birds. It would also be excellent with roasted lamb, mushroom risotto, or coq au vin. For an Asian twist, consider Peking duck or a rich, savoury braised pork belly.
This wine is wonderful now but still early in its prime drinking window, requiring some cellaring to soften its firm tannins. It is an ideal choice for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with fellow wine enthusiasts, or as a thoughtful gift for a Burgundy lover.
