FEATURES
The 1985 Burmester Vintage Port hails from a brilliant year for Port, with a warm and dry summer leading to a successful harvest. This vintage is popular among Vivino users and has received high ratings from critics. Expect a rich and warming dessert wine with notes of vanilla cake batter, brambleberries, earthy clay, red currant, and subtle spice. It presents with developed dried plum notes and ripe aromas, offering a medium structure and round fruit that is already fully developed. Some tasters also find hints of liquorice, tobacco, and fine cherry fruit with integrated tannins. 【 A classic and highly-rated vintage Port 】. For a wine of this age, it's important to handle it with care. The cork may be fragile, so a Durand opener or an Ah-So might be beneficial. Decanting is highly recommended for approximately 7.5 hours to allow the wine to breathe and reveal its complex aromas, as sediment is expected in older Vintage Ports. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Food pairings for this rich and warming Port include chocolate and caramel desserts. It also complements aged cheeses beautifully. This Vintage Port is ideal for celebrating significant milestones, a luxurious after-dinner treat, or a contemplative evening by the fireplace.
BACKGROUND
Burmester is a historic Port wine house with roots dating back to 1750, originally founded by Henry Burmester and John Nash in London before establishing themselves in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. The house is particularly renowned for its exceptional Tawny and Colheita Ports, but they also produce outstanding Vintage Ports in declared years. Sourced from top vineyards in the Douro Valley, Burmester Vintage Ports are crafted from traditional Portuguese varietals like Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. These wines are known for their robust structure, intense dark fruit flavors, and remarkable longevity, evolving beautifully over decades in the bottle.
