FEATURES
The 2010 vintage for Châteauneuf-du-Pape is widely considered one of the best in recent memory, often compared to 2001 and 2007, and even hailed as arguably the top vintage since 1978 by some critics. Despite a cooler and wetter spring, followed by a very dry July and August, the vintage produced low yields but exceptionally high quality. The red wines from this year are characterized by a deep, dark purple color, intense fruity aromas with mineral notes, and a well-balanced freshness. They are rich on the palate with structured, finely-grained tannins, indicating a strong aging potential. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate even allocated a score of 98 to the Southern Rhône 2010 vintage, a rare occurrence. The Fortia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition 2010, a blend dominated by Grenache (75%), with 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, showcases these characteristics with notes of roasted mesquite, apple wood, bay leaf, chestnut leaf, dark fig, and blackberry fruit, finishing with wood spice and brick dust. It's described as a rock-solid, old-school version with the tannic spine of the vintage. 【Exceptional vintage with strong aging potential and high critical acclaim】. This wine is drinking very nicely at 12 years of age, showing cherry, raspberry, currants, and a touch of barnyard, leading to a smooth finish. 🍴 Food Pairing: This full-bodied red pairs wonderfully with classic meat dishes such as veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, and game. It's also excellent with roasted, braised, and stewed preparations, barbecue, sausage, and cassoulet. For Eastern cuisine, it complements Asian dishes and hearty fish courses like tuna, mushroom pasta, eggplant, and cheese and tomato dishes. 🥂 Event Suggestions: Given its exceptional quality and aging potential, this wine is perfect for special occasions, celebratory dinners, or as a significant addition to a wine collector's cellar. It's also an ideal choice for a sophisticated dinner party where a robust and complex red wine is desired to impress guests. Its maturity makes it suitable for a vertical tasting of Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintages.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Fortia is one of the older estates in Chateauneuf du Pape. In fact Chateau Fortia can date itself all the way back to its humble beginnings as a Southern Rhone Valley farm in 1763. Chateau Fortia was one of the larger vineyards in the region by the mid to late 1800’s. The property takes its name from the founder of the estate, the Marquis de Fortia.Located not far from the Chateauneuf du Pape village the 30 hectare vineyard is planted to grapes to produce both red and white wine. 2.5 hectares are devoted for white Chateauneuf du Pape, while the remaining 27.5 hectares are used for the production of red wine. Even though most of their vines are in one large parcel, the soils are varied. They have a terroir of sand, clay, limestone and large rocks in their soil. The vineyard is planted to mostly Grenache with Syrah and a bit of Mourvedre.
