WINE REGION
France Jura
FEATURES
The 1978 Henri Maire Arbois Vin Jaune is a testament to the Jura region's unique winemaking traditions and the incredible longevity of Vin Jaune. At over 45 years old, this vintage embodies a profound character that only time can bestow upon a wine crafted for such extended aging. While the cork may be fragile due to its age, the wax capsule often provides excellent protection, as noted with a similar 1979 vintage. This wine is a "very solid" example, on par with other strong vintages from the era. Expect a distinctive oxidative style, a hallmark of Vin Jaune, which develops complex nutty and spicy aromas rather than fresh fruit. It presents a deep, limpid golden colour. The nose is intensely aromatic with notes of cooked apple, curry, saffron, and walnut. On the palate, it offers a lively, powerful attack, confirming flavours of fresh walnut, curry, green apple, dried fruit, and saffron, leading to a grandiose finish. Sherry-like acetone notes are present but beautifully integrated with the fruit, alongside great minerality and a caramel finish that is flavourful but not sweet. 【Its remarkable longevity and unique oxidative "film" maturation process, yielding complex nutty and spicy notes.】 Food pairing suggestions: This versatile wine pairs exceptionally well with rich, savoury dishes. Consider Comté, Manchego, or Parmesan cheese, gougères, mushrooms on toast, snails, crayfish, poultry, white meats, and fish. For a truly fine dining experience, it complements lobster and white truffles, and is excellent with cream sauces or even oysters. Event suggestions: This is a unique and impressive wine perfect for a special occasion, particularly for those who appreciate aged, oxidative styles. It's an excellent choice for a gourmet dinner, a sophisticated cheese tasting, or as a fascinating conversation starter among wine connoisseurs. Handle with care due to its age. Stand the bottle upright for a few days before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is recommended for a few hours to allow the wine to open up and express its full aromatic complexity, especially given its long maturation. Serve at a room temperature of 14-16°C (57-61°F).
