FEATURES
The 2019 vintage in Côte-Rôtie experienced a particularly windy spring and a dry, hot July with common water deficiency. However, 100mm of rain in August and ideal diurnal temperatures from mid-August to late August led to riper fruits and intense tannins. The overall quality is high, characterized by a very ripe style, good acidity levels, and plenty of deliciously deep and unctuous wines.
Marie et Pierre Benetiere's Côte-Rôtie Cordeloux 2019 is a testament to the vintage's potential, with critics noting the winery is back in top form. This Syrah offers intense, perfumed aromatics, featuring an array of floral (violets), spicy, peppery, and saline olive-y scents around a core of bright red and dark black berry fruit. The palate is saline, with great umami, and a developing cool-climate Syrah profile of plum, black pepper, savory meat, and wet stone. It presents a fair bit of structure with bright acids and plenty of fine tannins, suggesting it's one to hold. Some describe it as elegant, silky, and minerally, moving beyond typical 'red bacon' notes of other Côte-Rôties. 【 Its exceptional elegance, silkiness, and minerality are often cited as reasons for its significant price. 】
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This complex red wine would be excellent with rich, savory dishes such as 14-day-aged Pekin duck, roasted lamb, game meats, or hearty stews.
🥂 Event suggestions: While outstanding now, this wine is certainly one to hold for further development. It's ideal for a special dinner with fellow wine connoisseurs who appreciate age-worthy Northern Rhône Syrah, or for cellaring to enjoy its evolving complexity over the next decade or more.
