FEATURES
🏰 The 2021 vintage for Château de Pibarnon's Bandol Rouge is noted as a cooler year, which contributes to its earlier approachability compared to some other vintages. The estate's unique terroir, characterized by high-altitude vineyards, limestone-rich Triassic soil, and cool maritime breezes, imparts a distinctive freshness, purity, refinement, depth, and elegance to the wines. Château de Pibarnon has also been organically certified since 2019, reflecting a commitment to sustainable practices. 【A benchmark Bandol combining power and mineral elegance, from high-altitude, limestone-rich vineyards.】
This Bandol Rouge is described as dark and brooding, full of dark red but fresh cherry, raspberry, and blackberries, with hints of violets, garrigue, roasted meat, and iron. It exhibits medium to medium-plus acidity, a medium-plus body, a pronounced palate, and a long, structured finish, indicating its potential for aging. Aromas suggest black pepper and Provençal garrigue, with moderate tannins and full-bodied red and black fruit flavors. The remarkably deep red hue displays elegant carmine highlights. The nose reveals lovely aromatic complexity with notes of black licorice, Provençal garrigue, and bay leaf, intertwined with antique roses, blackberry jelly, and subtle sandalwood, creating a noble and refined bouquet. On the palate, the wine charms with its freshness and liveliness, offering a juicy and sleek texture with fine aromatic precision. Fine, elegant tannins integrate seamlessly, while a saline minerality brings tension and depth, leading to a remarkable length and persistent mineral character on the finish. It also offers intense notes of ripe red fruits, dark spices, and a subtle touch of vanilla, with a rich and enveloping structure balanced by surprising freshness.
🍴 This versatile Bandol Rouge pairs beautifully with roasted pork, grilled lamb with spring vegetables, or grilled or roasted red meats, especially lamb with Herbs de Provence. It also complements roast duck, feathered game, characterful cheeses (such as Roquefort or aged goat cheeses), slow-braised lamb shoulder with herbs, grilled rib of beef, game birds, Provençal daube, lamb tajine, hearty mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a gathering of wine lovers, or a special occasion that calls for a powerful yet elegant red. It is best enjoyed at a temperature between 16 and 18°C (60-64°F). A short aeration of one hour is recommended to allow the wine to fully express its aromatic range. While it can be enjoyed now, it has significant cellaring potential, drinking well from around 2027 to 2034, and potentially for fifteen years or more.
