FEATURES
Pierre-Olivier Garcia, a talented winemaker from Nuits-Saint-Georges, established his domaine in 2016, initially as Moron-Garcia before becoming solely Pierre-Olivier Garcia from the 2020 vintage onwards. He is renowned for his innovative «Baie-par-Baie» technique, meticulously hand-separating grapes berry by berry for about a third of his wines to enhance aromatic complexity and finesse. This commitment to detail is a 【Unique Selling Proposition】 that sets his wines apart. The vineyards are farmed organically, reflecting a deep respect for nature and a focus on sustainability. The 2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Grandes Vignes is a 100% Pinot Noir from a village-level vineyard in Premeaux, known for its floral character. The 2023 Burgundy vintage was notably warm, yet paradoxically experienced cool and wet periods, with significant June rains aiding vine resilience. A late August heatwave prompted rapid ripening, making precise harvest timing crucial. While some 2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges wines showed mixed results, early reports for Garcia's Les Grandes Vignes highlight an exquisite nose with notes of pink roses, sweet peonies, and lilacs, promising delightful floral complexity. This Nuits-Saint-Georges, with its robust structure and evolving red fruit and spice notes, pairs beautifully with characterful dishes. Consider a classic roast lamb, prime rib, or duck breast. It also complements game meats, red meats in rich sauces, or even beef bourguignon. For a cheese course, soft-centered cheeses like Époisses would be an excellent match. The 2023 vintage is still very young, offering charm and early drinkability but also significant aging potential. It's ideal for a special dinner with fellow wine enthusiasts who appreciate young, structured Burgundy, or for cellaring to allow its full complexity to unfold. Decanting or at least 2-3 hours of aeration is recommended if enjoying in its youth.
BACKGROUND
Originally named Moron-Garcia, Domaine Pierre-Olivier Garcia is located in Burgundy, France. The primary grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It was co-founded in 2016 by childhood friends Mathieu Moron and Pierre-Olivier Garcia. The inspiration came from Pierre-Olivier Garcia's father, Jean-Pierre Garcia, a renowned geologist at the University of Burgundy, who gifted him a vineyard in the village of Nuits Saint Georges called "Les Charmois," spanning just 0.4 hectares. Subsequently, Mathieu and Pierre-Olivier purchased a house in the center of Nuits Saint Georges, which they converted into a winery and cellar, marking the beginning of the domaine's history.
