FEATURES
The 2012 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion emerged from a challenging Bordeaux vintage, characterized by a cool and rainy spring and a turbulent flowering period. However, ideal warm and dry conditions in July and August ultimately salvaged the growing season. As the esteemed second wine of Château Haut-Brion, meticulous sorting and selection were paramount in crafting this vintage. The blend typically comprises 41-43% Merlot, 41-43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, matured for approximately 18 months in 20-25% new oak barrels.
This wine offers a wonderfully expansive, velvety textured, rich, and full-bodied mouthfeel. Expect notes of crushed rock, floral nuances, minerals, red and black currants, camphor, and forest floor, alongside fine red fruit aromas with a hint of toasty oak. Some tasters also detect graphite-tinged plum notes, a whisper of classic smoke, fig, raspberry, and fruitcake. It presents a beautiful dark ruby colour with a reddish/brick rim, and a pronounced nose of blueberries, black currants, plums, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, leather, earth, and dark chocolates. The palate mirrors these complexities, leading to a medium-plus finish with medium-minus tannins and tangy raspberries.
