The 1999 vintage in Burgundy was excellent for both red and white wines, with top-end Pinot Noir from Premier Cru sites still enjoyable two decades on. Meo Camuzet's Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux 1er Cru 1999 is a legendary wine from a vineyard plot famously cultivated by Henri Jayer. It is described as an opulent, structured wine, both impressive and demonstrative, with a feeling of generosity. The acidity, often high when young, tightens the finish but doesn't lead to austerity, as the initial impression on the palate is fat and smooth. Tasting notes highlight brooding, massive Burgundy characteristics, with black cherry fruit, loads of wood spice, dark spices, and a mineral texture. Other descriptors include deep dark fruit, soil notes, fine tannins, red and black cherry with faint forest hints, and a densely concentrated start followed by an elegant, almost ethereal middle and finish. 【 This wine has a very high aging potential, preserving its natural freshness for a long time due to its slow evolution and high acidity. 】
Given its age (1999), this wine requires careful handling. Old corks can be delicate; consider using a two-pronged Ah-So opener or a Durand. Decanting is highly recommended to allow the wine to open up and to separate any sediment that may have formed over the years. Decant for at least 1-2 hours, but monitor its evolution closely. Serve at a cellar temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F) to best appreciate its complex aromas and flavors.
🍴 This profound Vosne-Romanée pairs exquisitely with sophisticated dishes such as roasted venison, truffle-infused poultry, or a classic coq au vin. Its earthy and dark fruit notes also complement aged Gruyère or Comté cheeses.
🥂 This is a wine for profound contemplation and celebration, perfect for a milestone anniversary, a serious wine tasting, or a gathering of connoisseurs. It's a wine that demands attention and rewards patience.
