FEATURES
The 2014 Glaetzer Amon-Ra Shiraz hails from a challenging yet ultimately rewarding vintage in Barossa Valley. Despite early spring rains, October brought a significant frost, followed by extreme heat spikes in late January. However, the fruit that survived was spectacularly rich and concentrated, albeit in low yields from 50-130 year old vines in the Ebenezer sub-district.
This iconic Shiraz presents a deep dark ruby hue with purple reflections. On the nose, it offers an attractive bouquet of black forest berries, noble wood, eucalyptus, and subtle toasted nuances, alongside hints of dark chocolate, cigar boxes, fertile earth, and baking spices. The full-bodied palate delivers concentrated, muscular blackberry and earth flavors, balanced by freshness and finely grained tannins. Some tasters note a rich chocolate ganache, plum jus, cracked black pepper, and perfectly judged vanilla oak, with exquisite tannins and no discernible heat despite its 15% alcohol. It's drinking beautifully now, nearly a decade after its vintage, showing complexity with notes of cedar, vanilla, leather, and Indian spices.
【Robert Parker's Wine Advocate declared it "a great contender for wine of the vintage!" with a scorching 96+ points.】 This makes it an exceptional choice for special celebrations or a luxurious dinner. It pairs wonderfully with robust dishes such as grilled rib-eye beefsteaks, venison, and other red meats, as well as hard cheeses. With a recommended drinking window extending to 2032 by Robert Parker, it also offers excellent cellaring potential.
🥂 This powerful and age-worthy Shiraz is perfect for a grand dinner party, a significant anniversary celebration, or as a thoughtful gift for a serious wine collector. Its intensity and complexity make it a focal point for any special occasion.
🍴 For food pairings, consider a slow-braised beef cheek with a rich jus, a perfectly grilled Tomahawk steak, or a hearty venison stew. On the Eastern side, it would complement a robust Korean BBQ or a deeply flavored Cantonese braised beef brisket with star anise.
