FEATURES
The 2015 Le Macchiole Scrio, a 100% Syrah from Bolgheri, Tuscany, is a wine of profound character and complexity. The 2015 vintage in Bolgheri is considered a classic expression of the region's style. It saw a mild winter and steady spring, followed by a hot June and a challenging July with extreme heat. However, cooler, steadier August temperatures and good rainfall, along with an ideal September, allowed for slow, constant ripening and perfectly healthy grapes.
This deep, spicy red reveals an opulent nose of plum cake, blueberry muffins, dark chocolate, mocha, and coffee, intertwined with notes of black currant, cedar, bay leaf, and a hint of leather. On the palate, it's saturated with ripe plum, blackberry, and black cherry flavors, supported by earth, vanilla, licorice, and black pepper. It's solidly built, polished, and balanced, with fine-grained tannins, freshness, and a long, savory finish hinting at mint and eucalyptus. Scrio matures for 12 months in oak barrels (75% new) and then 21 months in bottle. 【This rare and original wine, produced in very small quantities (around 3,000-5,000 bottles per vintage), quickly became a benchmark for Syrah in Bolgheri.】 Critics have praised it, with James Suckling awarding a perfect 100 points, Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate 95 points, and Wine Enthusiast 92 points.
While alluring now, the 2015 Scrio benefits from aeration and has significant aging potential, expected to evolve beautifully through 2038.
🍴 This powerful Syrah pairs exceptionally well with rich red meats, such as braised dishes, roasts, oven-baked lamb, game birds, or even wild boar. It also complements aged cheeses and flavorful Mediterranean cuisine.
🥂 Ideal for an important dinner or a high-level lunch, this characterful red wine is perfect for occasions where you want to bring depth and personality to the dining experience.
