FEATURES
The 2019 vintage in Burgundy is widely regarded as truly excellent, even legendary, despite a challenging growing season that saw mild winter, chilly spring frosts, and uneven flowering. However, warm and sunny conditions in late July and August, followed by good weather during harvest in September, allowed the remaining grapes to ripen beautifully. Caroline Morey, hailing from a long line of vignerons and married to the esteemed Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, established her own domaine in 2014, quickly gaining recognition for her meticulous winemaking.
This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Champs Gains' 2019 reveals a ripe and appealingly spicy nose, with notes of white peach and hints of orange peel, complemented by a deft touch of wood. On the palate, it offers sleek, delicious, and well-detailed middle-weight flavours that are caressing yet punchy, leading to a very dry and youthfully austere finish. Initial tasting notes suggest a reductive character with lemon oil, grapefruit, and yellow flowers, alongside sharp acidity, which blossoms beautifully after a couple of hours in the glass, revealing jasmine, yellow peaches, and starfruit. Caroline Morey's wines are known for their vibrant acidity, which is evident here, contributing to a fine finishing energy and complexity. 【Caroline Morey's meticulous winemaking and the legendary 2019 Burgundy vintage】 This wine is still youthful and will greatly benefit from a few years of cellaring, expected to unwind and reward over 6 to 10 years, ideally from 2026 onwards.
🍴 Food Pairing: This elegant white Burgundy is a superb match for poultry, seafood, and creamy cheeses, where its vibrant acidity and depth can complement the richness of the dishes. Think roasted chicken with herbs, pan-seared scallops, or a classic cheese soufflé.
