FEATURES
The 2005 vintage in Bordeaux was truly fantastic, with exceptional quality across both Left and Right Banks, marked by one of the driest summers on record. Chateau Meyney, a robust and stylish Saint-Estèphe wine, often challenges classified growths with great success. The 2005 is considered a top vintage for Meyney, though it has taken time to fully develop and is now drinking superbly. This wine offers aromas of truffle, mocha, cassis, spice, and forest floor. It is full-bodied and tannic, almost masculine, with a blast of black cherry flavors on the finish. Other notes describe tar, ripe fruit, and dried herbs, supported by a good core of round-textured tannins and a long finish. The color is a blackish crimson with a light cassis aroma. It can also reveal cedar, cassis, oak, cocoa, coffee, menthol, plum, blackberry, pencil shavings, old leather, and barnyard notes. With medium+ acidity, medium+ silky tannins, and a medium(+) body, it has aged gracefully to be layered and harmonious. Some initial 'bretty' or barnyard notes can blow off to reveal flowers and rich fruit, leading to a round, juicy, spicy, and earthy finish. 【A robust and stylish St-Estèphe that often challenges classified growths】 🍴 This Bordeaux is best served with all types of classic meat dishes, including veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, and grilled dishes. It also pairs well with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta. Beef and venison are particularly recommended. 🥂 Currently drinking superbly, this wine shows excellent balance and developed fruit, and is best enjoyed in its full maturity, typically 10-20 years after the vintage. It's an excellent choice for a celebratory dinner, a gathering of Bordeaux enthusiasts, or as a sophisticated accompaniment to a gourmet meal. Serve at 15.5°C (60°F). Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended for younger vintages, while older ones may need less, just enough to remove sediment.
BACKGROUND
Château Meyney is an estate in Saint-Estèphe best known for its wine of the same name. Formed as an ecclesiastical vineyard in 1662, it is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, although its modern history began in 1917 when it was acquired by the Cordier family. The vineyard is contained in a single 51-hectare (126-acre) site, which is unusual for a estate of this size. It is planted with around 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 percent Merlot and ten percent Petit Verdot, and the typical Meyney blend reflects these proportions. Depending on the vintage, the wine is aged for 16 to 24 months in French barriques, with 30 to 60 percent new oak. A second wine, Prieur de Meyney, is made from the younger vines on the estate.
