The 2023 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Rouge is a very young vintage, and specific tasting notes are not widely available as the wine is likely still in its early stages of development or not yet released. However, Jean-Louis Chave is a legendary Northern Rhône estate with a winemaking heritage dating back to 1481, making them one of the oldest names in wine. They are widely regarded as the ultimate benchmark for Hermitage, known for their uncompromisingly traditional methods, low yields, full ripeness, minimal oak, and no filtering. The estate's flagship red, Hermitage Rouge, is a masterful blend of Syrah from multiple hillside parcels, crafted to be structured and age-worthy, often exhibiting notes of smoked meat, dark berries, and crushed granite. Jean-Louis Chave himself believes that tannin and extract are more important than acidity for a wine's aging ability. 【 Five centuries of unparalleled Hermitage mastery and a benchmark for age-worthy Syrah 】. This 2023 vintage, like its predecessors, is destined for a long life in the cellar and will be a profound choice for significant milestones, serious wine tastings, or as a cornerstone of a fine wine collection.
Food pairing suggestions: Hermitage Rouge, with its complex and full-bodied nature, pairs exceptionally well with strong, hearty courses. Ideal matches include grilled beef, roast leg of lamb, braised beef, venison, duck, and various stews. The addition of bacon can create a natural aromatic match. It also complements a myriad of hard and soft cheeses.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a powerful wine producer headquartered in the village of Mauves in the Saint-Joseph region, across the Rhone River from Hermitage. It owns about 14.5 hectares (36 acres) of land and grapes. The terraced estate now covers eight different plots on the hill, providing a range of mesoclimates and terroirs for Chave wines. Many of the vines are between 30 and 60 years old.
