FEATURES
The 1970 vintage for Bordeaux, including Château Magdelaine, is widely considered a very good to legendary year, marking the beginning of a modern era for the region. It delivered a large harvest of high-quality red wines across almost every appellation. While some bottles may be showing fragility, well-preserved examples of the 1970 Château Magdelaine are still in their prime and can be exceptional. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, primarily a Merlot-dominant blend with Cabernet Franc, is known for its supple, fruity, and well-structured character. Tasting notes often reveal a deep and refined nose of sweet dark berries, red plum, cigar ash, sealing wax, limestone-infused soil tones, tobacco leaf, and a touch of menthol. On the palate, it's described as deep, full-bodied, and complete, with a beautiful core of fruit, superb soil inflection, and a long, complex finish. 【One of the finest wines of this lovely vintage when spot on】. Given its age, this wine is best suited for a special, intimate gathering where its history and evolution can be appreciated. It's a perfect choice for a milestone anniversary or a sophisticated dinner with fellow wine enthusiasts. When handling such an aged bottle, extreme care is paramount. The cork can be fragile, so a Durand opener is highly recommended. Decanting is advisable to separate any sediment, but do so gently and allow the wine to breathe for a short period, perhaps 30-60 minutes, to awaken its complex aromas without over-exposing it to air. Serve at around 16°C (60-64°F) in large Bordeaux glasses to allow the tertiary aromas to fully express themselves. 🍴 This mature Bordeaux pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roasted beef, venison, grilled Châteaubriand, or duck confit. It also complements aged hard cheeses.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Belair Monange is a Bordeaux winery and vineyard rated as a Grand Cru Classe B in the classification of Saint Emilion estates. It makes Merlot-dominant blends with Cabernet Franc and was called Chateau Belair until the 2008 vintage.he estate was formed in the 14th Century, although wine production didn't begin on the property until the 1700s. It is a close neighbor of the Grand Cru Classa A Chateau Ausone and was owned by the same family for much of the 20th Century, even sharing Ausone's cellars. It was managed for a time by Pascal Delbeck, who had been the head winemaker at Ausone but, in 2003, he began selling shares to the Moueix family's negociant business Establissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. By 2008, the Mouiex family was in complete control and the name was changed to Belair Montange.
