Vincent Girardin, Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru, 2020
🏰 The 2020 Vincent Girardin Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru is a red Burgundy wine, often described as a fresh and harmonious expression of Pinot Noir. The Champans vineyard, located in Volnay, features very limestone terrain with ferruginous inclusions, giving the soil a reddish color. The vines, with an average age of 60 years, are cultivated organically since 1950 and biodynamically for the last four years, reflecting a deep commitment to the land. The winemaking process includes 50% whole bunch fermentation, contributing to its lively character. 【This wine is praised for its elegant structure and vibrant red fruit profile, with a notable freshness and harmony.】
🍴 This Volnay 1er Cru pairs beautifully with game birds, meat tajine, lamb, veal, Osso Bucco, or poultry. It also complements strong-flavored cheeses such as Epoisses.
🥂 With its dense tannins and fine acidity, the 2020 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru is a wine that will reward patience, with a recommended drinking window from 2026 through 2042. It's an excellent choice for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with discerning guests, or for cellaring to enjoy its evolving complexity over the years. Serve at approximately 14°C.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Vincent Girardin was founded by Vincent Girardin, who hails from the village of Santenay and comes from a family of winemakers. Passionate about wine, Vincent inherited the family's two-hectare vineyard and established the winery in 1994, sourcing grapes only from growers who shared his philosophy. The primary grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In 2001, the winery moved from Santenay to Meursault. In 2012, Vincent decided to sell the winery to La Compagnie des Vins d’Autrefois, and it is now managed by Eric Germain and Marco Caschera.
