The 2008 vintage for Burgundy, including Batard Montrachet Grand Cru, was largely very good despite a damp, chilly spring that delayed budburst and flowering. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey's 2008 Batard Montrachet Grand Cru is a white wine known for its buttery and complex style, crafted from 100% Chardonnay. Tasting notes often highlight a rich, powerful, and balanced profile with a persistent and elegant finish, featuring a broad range of yellow and white orchard fruits, floral, spice, and citrus nuances. Some describe its density as 'gobsmacking,' almost like drinking a red wine due to its massive dry extract and chewy texture, yet with a white flavor and aroma profile. 【 Legendary concentration and length with a powerful, muscular character 】
For a wine of this age (2008), it's important to approach it with care. The cork and capsule may be fragile, so use a proper corkscrew and open gently. Decanting is often recommended for older white Burgundies to allow them to open up and shed any reductive notes, but be mindful not to over-aerate. Serve slightly chilled, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), to best appreciate its complex aromas and flavors.
Food pairing suggestions include flavorful poultry and fish dishes, chicken and turkey. This wine is ideal for significant milestones, intimate gourmet dinners, or as a centerpiece for a sophisticated tasting event. Its complexity and age-worthiness make it a truly special experience.
