🏰 The 2020 Domaine Coche-Dury Volnay 1er Cru is a highly anticipated red Burgundy, showcasing the elegance of Volnay combined with Coche-Dury's renowned precision. The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was characterized by warm and favorable growing conditions, resulting in ripe, concentrated fruit while maintaining freshness and vibrancy. Neal Martin of Vinous rated this vintage 94 points, calling it "one of the finest reds that I have tasted from Coche-Dury in recent years." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate also praised it with 93+ points, noting its potential to age gracefully.
This Pinot Noir reveals a bright ruby hue with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers refined layers of red cherries, wild strawberries, and raspberries, accented by floral notes of violets and subtle hints of spice like clove and cinnamon, alongside earthy undertones and minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins and vibrant acidity, presenting pure, focused flavors of juicy red fruits and a delicate mineral backbone, culminating in a long, precise, and elegant finish. 【One of the finest reds from Coche-Dury in recent years】
🍴 This versatile Volnay pairs beautifully with classic French dishes such as roasted duck, herb-crusted lamb, or mushroom risotto. It also complements seared tuna, game birds, and medium-strength cheeses.
🥂 Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a special occasion celebrating fine Burgundy. It's approachable now for its aromatic vibrancy but has the potential to age gracefully over the next 8–12 years, gaining additional nuance and complexity.
BACKGROUND
Coche-Dury, headquartered in Meursault, Burgundy, is famous for its highly collectible Chardonnay white wine. In fact, Coche-Dury’s Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru wine is consistently ranked among the 100 most expensive wines on Wine-Searcher. The total land area of Coche-Dury is just over 9 hectares (22 acres), about half of which is within Meursault. Coche-Dury's only Grand Cru wine is Corton-Charlemagne, but several other wines from the domaine are also of particular importance. The Premier Cru wines from the Les Charmes and Les Perrières vineyards in Meursault are among the most expensive wines in the Côte de Beaune, while the Coche-Dury in Meursault is one of the most popular.
