🏰 The 2011 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon is a prodigious effort from one of Hermitage's top terroirs, Les Bessards, known for its granite soils. This 100% Syrah wine comes from very old vines, typically 90-100 years old, ensuring low yields and high quality. The 2011 vintage, while approachable earlier than 2009 or 2010, still boasts 2-3 decades of longevity. It's described as spectacularly perfumed with raspberry, blackberry, licorice, toasted spices, and floral nuances. The palate is full-bodied with massive depth and richness, finely polished tannins, and a long finish of licorice, tobacco, and cocoa. 【 A remarkably complex and age-worthy expression of Hermitage Syrah from ancient vines 】. Jancis Robinson noted its very meaty, savory, and stereotypically Hermitage character, with abundant polished tannins and notable acidity.
🍴 This powerful and complex Syrah demands equally robust food pairings. Classic choices include red meats like rib of beef, game such as hare stew or wild boar, and aged goat cheeses. Its savory and spicy notes would also complement dishes with smoked meats, rich stews, or even a hearty lentil dish with truffles.
🥂 The 2011 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon is an exceptional wine for a grand celebration, a serious wine tasting, or as a centerpiece for a gourmet meal. Its impressive aging potential makes it a prime candidate for cellaring, offering immense pleasure in the decades to come. Decanting for several hours is highly recommended to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold. Serve in large, appropriate glassware to appreciate its depth.
