FEATURES
🏰 The 1983 vintage for Alsace was exceptionally good, particularly for sweet wines like Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles. A long, hot, and dry summer, followed by a damp autumn, created ideal conditions for noble rot to develop, resulting in wines with concentrated fruit, depth, refined acidity, and excellent aging capacity. This vintage was even considered a worthy successor to the legendary 1971. While Vendanges Tardives from this era were made from over-ripe grapes, their balance often remained drier than contemporary sweet wines. Many of these sweeter wines are still drinking excellently today, though individual bottle conditions may vary. The Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile Vendange Tardive 1983 exhibits intense and fresh peach aromas, with an elegant and spicy nose. It is highly mineral, almost dry, with grip, tension, and concentrated peach fruit flavor, dense and tightly structured. Tasting notes also describe a bright, shimmering mid-straw color, a rich yet airy and elegant nose, and a palate that, despite smelling off-dry, finishes quite dry with notes of green fruitgums and a waft of smoke, showcasing pure harmony. It possesses a very long keeping potential. 【Exceptional and long-lived Vendange Tardive from the highly successful 1983 Alsace vintage】 Serving Advice: This 1983 Trimbach Riesling Vendange Tardive is a truly historic wine from an excellent vintage for sweet Alsatian wines. While many of these wines have remarkable longevity, individual bottle conditions can vary. Expect complex, evolved aromas and flavors, possibly with notes of petrol, honey, and dried fruit, and a balance that might lean drier than modern sweet wines. Old corks can be fragile; use a specialized opener. Decant carefully to check for sediment and allow it to breathe, but be mindful that very old wines can be delicate. Serve chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F), to best appreciate its intricate profile. 🍴 Aged Vendange Tardive Riesling, even if it has evolved to a drier profile, pairs beautifully with foie gras, strong cheeses like Roquefort or aged Comté, rich pâtés, or fruit tarts (especially apricot or peach). It could also complement richer seafood dishes or lighter game. 🥂 This is a rare and exceptional wine, perfect for a milestone anniversary, a sophisticated wine tasting focused on aged Alsatian wines, or a very special celebratory dinner.
