FEATURES
🏰 The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was warm and generous, producing wines that are deep and rather rich for a Bourgogne, yet they never tip into being heavy or alcoholic. This Georges Mugneret Gibourg Bourgogne Rouge 2018 offers fruit that is somehow 'throttled', avoiding the overt fruitiness often found in New World Pinot Noir, and instead showcasing an element of internal restraint. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, licorice, and spices, this wine is medium to full-bodied, deep, and concentrated. It features a layered core of fruit framed by rich, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully chewy finish. It is noted to be less supple and immediate than its 2019 counterpart, suggesting it will truly 'sing' with five or more years of bottle aging. Tasting notes also reveal black tea, dried black cherry, dry soil, a hint of potpourri, plum, sandalwood, and a hint of orange peel on the nose. The palate presents ripe strawberry, ripe cranberry, and a hint of orange peel, leading to a long finish of rose, orange peel, and tea. It is dry, with a medium body, medium-plus powdery, drying tannins, and medium acidity. After two hours of aeration, an explosion of wet forest floor and umami notes can emerge on the nose and palate, with tannins softening nicely. 【 Renowned Burgundy producer's expressive regional wine 】 🍴 This versatile red 布根地 pairs well with beef, veal, poultry, and game such as deer and venison. Its nuanced complexity also makes it a good match for mushroom-based dishes or roasted root vegetables. 🥂 This wine is perfect for a convivial dinner with friends or family, especially with roasted meats or game. Its evolving complexity makes it an intriguing choice for those who appreciate the subtle layers of quality Burgundy.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is a French producer of high-quality Pinot Noir located in the Côte de Nuits, famous for its wines from Burgundy's most popular vineyards. The winery was founded in 1933, and in the 1950s small plots of land were purchased to expand the family's vineyards. Incorporated in 2009 as Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The most rare and expensive wines of the winery come from the Grand Cru vineyards Ruchottes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Echézeaux, and it also produces Burgundy red wine from multiple Premier Cru vineyards.
