FEATURES
🏰 The 1998 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Da Capo is a monumental wine, marking the debut vintage for this luxury old-vine cuvée. Produced only in exceptional years, Da Capo is a single-vineyard selection from La Crau, primarily Grenache, but theoretically made from all 13 authorized Châteauneuf-du-Pape grape varieties. Robert Parker famously rated this vintage 100 points, calling it "possibly one of the greatest dry red wines I have ever tasted in my life". It was splendid in its youth, then shut down, and is now emerging from its dormant period, showing extraordinary precision and definition. 【 1998年份的Domaine du Pégaü Cuvée Da Capo被Robert Parker評為100分,是教皇新堡的里程碑式佳釀 】
Tasting Notes: This massive wine is opaque ruby/purple to the rim. The bouquet is fantastically complex, offering kirsch, overripe plum liqueur, meat juice, charred steak, licorice, spice, camphor, roasted herbs, pepper, and Asian spice. It also reveals notes of freshly drawn espresso, cedar, brick dust, cocoa powder, roasted pheasant, garrigue, and tar. Full-bodied and unctuously textured, it possesses sweet fruit, a silky, streamlined texture, and zesty acidity with sweet, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long, dense, chewy, and still very tight, with a rusty iron note.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This powerful and complex Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an ideal partner for rich Western dishes such as prime rib, tournedos Rossini, roasted lamb, or game meats. For Eastern cuisine, consider slow-cooked beef stew, braised lamb with spices, or rich chocolate desserts.
🥂 Event suggestions: A truly special wine for a grand celebration, a serious wine tasting, or as a prized addition to a collector's cellar. It is still very young and will age for 30-40 years, with no doubt being prodigious with another decade of cellaring. Decanting for several hours is highly recommended to allow it to fully express itself.
