🏰 The 2001 E. Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc is a rare and highly sought-after white Rhône wine, produced only in the best vintages from old Marsanne and Roussanne vines. The 2001 vintage in the Rhône Valley was generally very good, producing wines with excellent concentration and aging potential. Ex Voto Blanc is known for its immense complexity, richness, and profound longevity. Expect a wine with a golden hue, evolving aromatics of honey, apricot, white flowers, toasted nuts, and a distinct minerality. The palate is full-bodied, unctuous, and incredibly long, with a perfect balance of acidity and richness. It's a wine that truly expresses the grandeur of Hermitage Blanc. 【 A rare, immensely complex, and long-lived Hermitage Blanc from a top Rhône producer 】.
🍴 This opulent white Rhône wine demands equally rich and complex food pairings. Consider roasted poultry with cream sauces, pan-seseared foie gras, rich seafood dishes like lobster or scallops with butter sauce, or mature, hard cheeses. Its oxidative notes and richness can also stand up to some lighter game birds or truffle-infused dishes. Avoid light, delicate foods that would be overwhelmed.
🥂 The 2001 E. Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc is a wine for profound contemplation and celebration. It's ideal for a very special anniversary, a significant milestone, or as the centerpiece of a gourmet tasting. This wine is built to age for many decades and is likely still evolving beautifully. If opening now, stand the bottle upright for a day or two to allow any potential sediment to settle. While not typically decanted for long, a brief decant (30 minutes) might help it open up, but be cautious with very old white wines as they can fade quickly. Serve slightly chilled, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), to allow its complex aromatics to shine.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
