🏰 The 2019 Burgundy vintage is widely heralded as one of the best in recent years, offering an extraordinary balance of concentration and acidity despite facing some challenges. The growing season experienced a mild winter and early budbreak, followed by April frosts and a cold, wet June, which led to reduced yields and millerandage (uneven berry set). However, warm and dry conditions returned in July, concentrating the juice in the grapes. The resulting white wines from 2019 are noted for their excellent freshness, beautiful concentration, and vibrant energy. 【 2019 Burgundy: A vintage of extraordinary concentration and balance for white wines 】
This Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru 2019 typically displays a rich green-gold color with opulent and very expressive aromas. Tasting notes often include pear, toasted almonds, vanilla pod, mandarin, fresh bread, peach, nutmeg, and vibrant citrus notes like lemon and grapefruit. Hints of white nectarine, green apple, wet limestone, apple blossom, and a touch of blackcurrant leaf can also be found. The palate is powerfully structured, medium to full-bodied, bright, chalky, deep, and concentrated, with thrilling fruit concentration, excellent freshness, vibrant acidity, and a long, expansive, delicately oak-inflected finish. Some describe a lightly spiced opening with hints of praline and almond shaving.
🍴 This elegant white Burgundy is a superb match for seafood and light salads. Its structure and concentration also make it suitable for richer fish dishes, poultry in creamy sauces, or even some lighter white meats.
