🏰A legendary and phenomenal 1991 Côte-Rôtie La Turque, this mature "La La" 【offers an incredibly flamboyant and decadent experience with complex notes of smoke, spice, dark fruits, and savory tertiary characteristics】. The 1991 Rhône Valley vintage was good, largely escaping the severe frosts that affected other regions, with a hot, dry summer. La Turque, one of Guigal's iconic single-vineyard Côte-Rôtie wines, is a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, co-fermented. It's been described as a "slightly less known beauty" that is wonderful and phenomenal, even compared to the superb 1989 or 1990 vintages.
🍴 Expect smoke, spice, meaty character with ripe dark fruits, full and velvety. More evolved and savory on the nose with hints of black truffle shavings and roasted chestnut. It pairs exquisitely with roast duck breast with black pepper, saddle of venison, braised wild boar, grilled lamb chops with herbs of Provence, or aged Comté cheese.
🥂 This phenomenal and legendary wine is perfect for a very special occasion, a milestone celebration, or a vertical tasting. It is mature and drinking beautifully now.
At 33 years old, this wine is in a wonderful, mature state, showcasing complex tertiary aromas alongside its fruit. It's important to handle the cork and capsule with care. Decanting for 1-2 hours is highly recommended to allow it to fully open up and express its nuanced character. Enjoy this journey through time!
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
