🏰【The 2021 Des Comtes Lafon Meursault Charmes 1er Cru is a quintessential expression of Meursault, showcasing the astonishing depth and complexity for which this revered Burgundy producer is known.】 From old vines in the upper part of the Charmes Premier Cru, this vintage, despite being a "cool and classic" year, offers remarkable definition and lemony freshness without sacrificing richness. It presents a pure and elegant nose of citrus, floral, and spiced apple, leading to a palate with intense white peach, yellow cherries, and Anjou pear, interwoven with notes of toasted bread crusts, nectarine, and marzipan. The wine boasts incredible energy, superb concentration, and a silky, vibrant texture, culminating in a refined, mineral-driven finish.
🍴 This rich and complex white Burgundy is an ideal partner for roasted chicken or turkey, rich seafood dishes like scallops or lobster in cream sauce, or foie gras. It also pairs beautifully with aged Comté or Gruyère cheeses.
🥂 An exceptional choice for a celebratory meal or a serious white Burgundy tasting, this wine is ready to reveal its full potential in a few years and promises excellent aging through 2039.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
