Lucien Le Moine, Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles St Jacques 1er Cru, 2018
🏰 The 2018 red Burgundy vintage was characterized by a very hot growing season, resulting in wines with high sugar levels and elevated alcohol, often in the 14-16% range. Despite the heat, top producers managed to craft wines with dark colors, great perfume, concentration, flavor, and balance, often described as hedonistic with a rich, opulent, and ripe fruit profile. While some wines from this vintage might raise questions about long-term aging potential, the best examples, like those from Lucien Le Moine, showcase a wonderful concentration and a pleasing viscosity on the mid-palate, marrying fragrant and fresh attack with lingering mineral salinity. 【A hedonistic vintage with rich, opulent fruit】
🍴 This rich and concentrated Gevrey-Chambertin would be an excellent companion to robust dishes such as roasted lamb with rosemary and garlic, pan-seared duck breast with a red wine reduction, or a hearty wild mushroom tart. For an Eastern pairing, consider Korean BBQ short ribs or a rich, slow-cooked Cantonese beef brisket.
🥂 Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a gathering of friends who appreciate powerful red Burgundies, or for enjoying in its youth to mid-term, as it offers immediate pleasure and a captivating profile.
