🏰 The 2022 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Désirée is a 【lovely rendition of this cuvée, offering purity, raciness, and a satiny, fleshy texture】. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was a good year, hot and dry in the summer but without particular problems, with an early start to picking. This vintage delivered both quality and reasonable quantity, a welcome change after the vicissitudes of 2021. "Désirée" is the designation Lafon has used since the 19th century for their Meursault from the lieu-dit Les Pétures (also known as Les Plures) in the Santenots sector, planted to Chardonnay. The first wines under the direction of Léa and Pierre Lafon, the 2022 vintage has turned out very well. This wine offers aromas of peach, pear, orange oil, white flowers, and buttery pastry. It is medium to full-bodied, satiny, and fleshy, pure and racy, concluding with an aromatic finish. Other notes include ripe apricot and quince fruit with a suggestion of white flowers, a rich and dense texture, and a luxuriously lingering finish. It's described as floral and spiced with ripe orchard fruit aromas, brightening up to a well-textured finish.
🍴 Well-suited for food pairings with chicken and turkey. Its richness and acidity would also complement roasted white meats, braised dishes, and white sauce pasta.
🥂 An excellent choice for a celebratory meal, a special gathering, or a tasting of fine white Burgundy. It's enjoyable now but also has significant cellaring potential.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
