🏰 The 2013 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanee is a real overachiever for its level, showcasing the vibrancy and resilience of Burgundy's 2013 vintage. This Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanee offers a beautifully aromatic profile with signature floral aromatics, balanced by good concentration, spice, and freshness. It reveals dark red cherry, plum, spice, orange peel, and mint, opening up into a surprisingly pliant and expressive wine. The palate is dense for a village wine, with lovely juicy red and dark berries, bursting with Vosne spiciness, violets, and cinnamon, supported by fine minerality and crisp acidity. It's a wine with compelling balance of fruit intensity and energy, showing great potential for further aging.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs wonderfully with delicate yet flavorful dishes. Consider roasted chicken with herbs, pan-seared duck breast, or mushroom-based dishes like truffle pasta. For a Cantonese pairing, try it with steamed garoupa with ginger and spring onion, or a light char siu (barbecued pork). A Western pairing could be coq au vin or a fine selection of mild cheeses.
🥂 This wine is perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a special family gathering, or as a thoughtful gift for a Burgundy lover. Its expressive nature makes it enjoyable now, but its structure suggests it will continue to evolve beautifully with a few more years in the cellar. Serve at around 16°C (60.8°F) to allow its complex aromatics to shine.
BACKGROUND
Founded in 2000, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a relatively new wine producer in Burgundy, but the Liger-Belair family has experience in vineyards since 1815. . It is now managed by Louis-Michel Liguet, Comte de Belaire, who has begun planting vineyards again in Vonn-Romagne and Saint-Georges. Comte Liger-Belair now produces its only wine from La Romanée, a Grand Cru vineyard located on the Romanée-Conti hills. The domaine also owns land in several Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyards. Although the domaine is young, its wines are elegantly structured and highly sought after. La Romanée is one of the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy.
